Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality Statement of Intent

As Chief Executive of the Defence Support Group (DSG) I am responsible and accountable for implementing the Secretary of State for Defence's Policy on Safety, Health, Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development through a system of robust delegation.

My highest priorities are the health, safety and welfare of employees and all others affected by our activities, along with the reduction of our environmental impact.
Prime responsibility for Safety, Health, Environmental Protection and Quality assurance lies with myself and the DSG Board of Directors. I require the Head of Compliance to act as the DSG focus for health and safety at work, environmental protection and quality assurance issues. He will maintain a consistent system of policies, processes and standard operating procedures.   All management levels within DSG will instigate, on my behalf, arrangements based on knowledge of all workplace hazards, and potential environmental impacts, to ensure the protection of all persons affected by DSG's activities, products and services.

All DSG employees must adhere to all relevant legislation and any other requirements the agency subscribes to.  We must all take reasonable care of our own health and safety as well as the safety of other people who may be affected by our acts or omissions. We are committed to making a positive contribution to our community and the environment and will monitor performance of our systems, through a framework of objectives and targets. All personnel must endeavour to:

  • Prevent pollution whilst undertaking our activities & reduce emissions to the atmosphere.
  • Reduce waste (reuse/recycle) & reduce energy usage, using sustainable resources whenever practicable.
  • Reduce accidents in the workplace & reduce attributable customer concerns.

My policy on quality is to achieve and maintain sustainable services, through the adoption of a formal improvement based management system that consistently satisfies the needs and expectations of our customers. This level of quality is only achieved through the skills or our people and application of the DSG Business System. All employees within the organisation will work to ensure that the needs and expectations of customers and other stakeholders are realised.

We are committed to excellence through continuous improvement and as such we regularly review the performance of our business processes to ensure their effectiveness. I expect best practice to be continually incorporated within the culture of our organisation. The successful implementation of this policy contributes to the effective operation of our business and therefore requires communication to, and total commitment from, all personnel to achieve a safe environment for all.
