Latest Appointment to the Defence Support Group Board

The Defence Support Group (DSG) recently announced the appointment of the latest member to its Trading Fund management board.

Janet Baker joins DSG as one of four Non-Executive Directors who provide the organisation with independent expertise and advice. As a wholly owned agency of the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and operating as a Trading Fund, DSG provides the UK's Armed Forces with the maintenance, repair, overhaul and upgrade capabilities for a wide range of air and land based equipment and systems.

Janet Baker’s career started in the public sector before she left to pursue a career in management consultancy firstly with Coopers and Lybrand and Ernst and Young then PA Consulting Group where she was a Senior Partner, leading the firm’s Defence account, its International Sourcing advisory services, as well as its public sector work in Hong Kong and the USA. After leaving full-time consultancy work in 2006 when her daughter was born, she became a Non-Executive Director on the Board of the HealthCare Purchasing Consortium, and is Chair of HPC’s Audit committee and a member of the Remuneration committee. Janet is also a Non-Executive Director on HM Treasury Group’s Risk and Audit Committee, having been appointed in 2008.

Speaking about this latest appointment she said, “I am greatly looking forward to working with the other Non-Executive Directors and DSG executives on the Trading Fund board. DSG has a vital role to play in supporting those who defend us at home and overseas and I am greatly impressed with the high level of commitment and skill that is evident throughout the business.”

Adding his own comments, DSG’s Chief Executive, Archie Hughes said, “Janet will be a great asset to the DSG board as she brings to the table a wealth of experience and knowledge that will be of major benefit to DSG. Her background includes work on a number of MOD projects and initiatives, which will help us shape DSG for the future.”

1.      DSG launched on 1 April 2008 as a new MOD Trading Fund with the primary focus of providing expert in-house maintenance, repair, overhaul and upgrade services for the through life support of the key land and air based platforms and equipment of the UK Armed Forces.
